Luye Highland's Hot Air Balloon, Turned Into a Souvenir You Take Home
Howdy Creative designed a hot air balloon picnic mat for Xiang Xiang Taitung, turning Luye Highland's yearly balloon design into a souvenir that visitors actually use outdoors, rather than a postcard that ends up in a drawer.

Challenge
Every year Luye Highland releases a new hot air balloon design, but the souvenirs visitors could take home were mostly flat printed items like postcards. There was no everyday-usable product that could carry that year's specific balloon design home with visitors.
Goal
Xiang Xiang Taitung wanted a souvenir visitors would actually keep using, not tuck away in a drawer. Translating the year's balloon design into a picnic mat graphic, paired with a matching picnic tote set, would let the product carry the full Luye Highland experience home with the visitor.

Approach
- Turned that year's signature Luye Highland balloon design and colors into the picnic mat's main graphic, giving the product a year-limited, collectible feel.
- Chose an outdoor-ready, easy-to-clean picnic mat material so the souvenir stayed genuinely useful, not just decorative.
- Designed a companion picnic tote set so visitors could carry local food along, extending the picnic experience at Luye Highland itself.

Outcome
The Luye hot air balloon picnic mat drew a strong response at the event, a standout result that made it one of Xiang Xiang Taitung's signature products for turning the local balloon imagery into an everyday product tied to visitors' travel memories, and it drove sales of the picnic tote set alongside it.
